Our chauffeurs know this circuit. They know the order the temples are taken in, where the car can wait, how long darshan usually runs at each one, and where to stop for food and a toilet break. You are not directing the driver from the back seat.

The Innova Crysta is the same trip at ₹500 a day less, driver plus 6 with two captain seats in the middle row; driver plus 7 is subject to availability, when a bench extension is fitted between the captain seats. The Innova Hycross ZX Top is the top model: powered recliner captain seats, a panoramic sunroof and a near-silent hybrid cabin. Rates follow the kilometres covered in a day, so adding a day usually lowers the daily rate. Work out your exact rate.

  • Chauffeur for the whole trip
  • Driver allowance
  • No kilometre meter, no minimum kilometres
You pay
  • Fuel: car given on full tank, returned on full tank
  • Toll and parking, at actuals

Nothing is collected from you on the road. The daily rate covers the chauffeur and his allowance. You buy the fuel, full tank out and full tank back, and you pay toll and parking exactly as incurred, against the FASTag statement and the cash receipts. No night charge, no minimum kilometres, no extra kilometre rate, and nothing added for crossing a state line. The car is serviced on schedule at the authorised Toyota workshop and we keep every invoice. Every rule of a booking, written down.

Bhimashankar is about 220 km from Andheri, five to six hours by the Expressway, Talegaon, Chakan and Manchar, then the hill road through Ghodegaon and Taleghar. A day trip runs about 440 km garage to garage. On the flat rate none of it is billed by the kilometre: you pay the day rate and fill the fuel your trip uses. A day runs until 12 midnight. If the car reaches our garage after 11 PM on the last day, one extra day's driver allowance is payable; after 12 midnight, the next day's rate applies. A ₹2,000 deposit confirms your date.

Our Pick for Bhimashankar

Why the Hycross suits a four o'clock start.

The drive begins in the dark and ends after a long walk down and back up two hundred and thirty steps. A quiet cabin on the way out and a reclining seat on the way home are worth more on this route than on any other.

Near-silent hybrid cabin. The Hycross ZX Top is a petrol strong hybrid. It pulls away on electric power in silence, and the cabin stays calm, with far less engine noise and vibration than a diesel.

How It Works

The car waits while you take darshan.

We arrive at four in the morning

The queue is shortest before the crowd arrives. The Hycross and your chauffeur reach your door while it is still dark, tank full.

The car waits at the temple road

Park, walk down the steps, take darshan at your own pace. There is no kilometre meter running while you are inside.

Home by night, return on a full tank

Refill at the end and pay the day rate plus toll and parking. That is the whole bill.

What to See

A Jyotirlinga, a lake and a cobra-hood rock.

Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga

The sixth of the twelve Jyotirlingas, in a Nagara-style stone temple at the head of the valley. Two hundred and thirty steps down from the road.

Hanuman Lake

A ten-minute walk behind the temple, quiet and shaded. Most visitors miss it.

Gupt Bhimashankar

The stream said to be the source of the Bhima, a short forest walk from the main shrine.

Nagphani viewpoint

The cobra-hood rock at the edge of the plateau. On a clear morning you see the Konkan below the ghat.

Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary

Dense forest on the way up, home to the Malabar giant squirrel. Windows down on the last few kilometres.

Malshej Ghat

About two hours north, worth adding as a second day in the monsoon for the waterfalls on the road.

Know Before You Go

Six things worth knowing before Bhimashankar.

Start at four in the morning

Darshan queues build from eight. A four o'clock departure from Andheri gets you to the steps before the rush.

The temple sits below road level

You walk down a flight of steps to reach it, and back up afterwards. A new stairway was built during the 2026 works, so any step count you read online predates it. Take it slowly and allow for the climb back.

The last stretch is narrow

From Manchar the road turns off through Ghodegaon, Dimbhe and Taleghar, and the final 25 to 30 km is a single lane hill road through the wildlife sanctuary. It breaks up every monsoon. Our chauffeurs drive it; most app drivers will not.

Mondays and Mahashivratri are heavy

Shravan Mondays and Mahashivratri bring very large crowds. Tell us if you want to go anyway and we will leave earlier.

Carry water and simple food

There are small stalls near the temple but nothing substantial on the road up.

Best months

October to February. The monsoon is beautiful and it is also when the Forest Department closes Kondhwal waterfall, Nagphani and Kokankada, and when the last 25 km breaks up. In 2026 a freshly resurfaced stretch failed in the first rains.

Starting from Navi Mumbai, Panvel or Thane? We take the Expressway and leave it at Talegaon, so the start of the drive is on your side of the city. Tell us your pickup point and we will time the departure around it.

The Road

There is only one road a car should take, and it is not the Karjat one.

Search for Bhimashankar and you will find routes through Karjat, Khopoli and Khandas. Those are trek routes. Khandas is the base village for the Ganesh Ghat and Shidi Ghat climbs, which take about four hours on foot, and the Forest Department names them as trails, not roads. A car goes the pilgrim way: Expressway to Talegaon, then Chakan, Rajgurunagar and Manchar, then left off the highway through Ghodegaon, Dimbhe and Taleghar. Taking the Talegaon exit also means you skip Pune city entirely.

The last 25 to 30 km is the whole story

Single lane hill road through the wildlife sanctuary. The Taleghar to Nigadale stretch was resurfaced for about Rs 3.5 crore and broke up in the first rains of the 2026 monsoon, with water filled potholes reported by the local press. The highway part is fine. This part is not.

Five to six hours, not four

Four hours is what the travel pages say. It is what the map says with an empty Mumbai and a perfect hill road. We plan five to six each way, with a halt, and we would rather be early than apologising.

The missing link helps

The Expressway missing link opened in May 2026 and takes 25 to 30 minutes off the Khandala ghat section at no extra toll. It is the one part of this drive that got faster.

Landslides close this road

It has happened before, and heavy rain in the Bhimashankar and Junnar belt has brought down slides and shut stretches. In the monsoon we check before we commit to the date.

Not after dark

The state’s own encyclopaedia records that entry to the sanctuary is barred after 7 PM. Whether or not it is enforced on the day, a single lane hill road through a forest at night is not where we want your family.

Leave Andheri at 3:30 or 4 AM

That is what it takes to be in the first queue. It also means the hill road in daylight on the way up and on the way down, which is the real reason we push for it.

The Temple

Bhimashankar was shut for five months this year, and the rules keep moving.

The temple closed to darshan on 9 January 2026 and reopened on 15 June, for about Rs 288 crore of redevelopment ahead of the 2027 Kumbh, including a rebuilt sabha mandap and a new stairway. On reopening, online pre registration was compulsory with a cap of a thousand people a day. Three days later that was relaxed to free direct darshan from 7 to 11 AM plus a free tatkal registration, and VIP, recommendation and protocol darshan were scrapped altogether. For Shravan the temple ran 5 AM to 9:30 PM with a single queue. Four different arrangements in eight months. We check what is in force before every trip, and so should you.

There is no official Bhimashankar website

Several sites look official, carry a darshan pass form and take money. None of them identifies a publisher we can verify, and none is the trust. We will not link one and we will not sell you a pass.

Outer parking and a shuttle on busy days

For Shravan Mondays 2026 the trust ran four numbered outer parking zones with around 38 state transport buses carrying devotees in, planning for 60,000 to 70,000 people a day. Your chauffeur waits at the outer zone. That is the arrangement, not a failing on his part.

Any step count you read is out of date

A new stairway was built in the 2026 works. The numbers on travel sites all predate it. You walk down to the temple and back up, and that is all we will claim.

Shravan Mondays and Mahashivratri

Shravan 2026 began on 13 August. Bhimashankar was closed for Mahashivratri 2026 because of the works. Outside those, a weekday is a completely different temple.

Queue time on a normal day

The trust planned for 30 minutes to an hour in normal crowds during Shravan. On an ordinary weekday morning it is quicker. On a Shravan Monday it is not.

What we will tell you

If the arrangement has changed since you booked, we tell you before you leave, not when you arrive. That is the whole reason to use a chauffeur who drives this road rather than an app driver who has never seen it.

The Sanctuary

You drive through a wildlife sanctuary to get there.

Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary was notified in 1985 and covers about 131 sq km across Pune, Raigad and Thane districts. It was protected specifically for the Shekru, the Indian giant squirrel, which is Maharashtra’s state animal and whose Western Ghats subspecies is at home here. It gets around 6,000 mm of rain a year, which is why the road suffers and why the forest looks the way it does.

Look up, not down

The Shekru lives in the canopy and you are far more likely to hear one than see one. Early morning, before the crowd, is the only realistic chance.

The waterfalls get closed every monsoon

The Forest Department has closed Kondhwal waterfall, about 2 km from the temple, along with Nagphani Point and Kokankada, in 2024 and again by order of 6 July 2026, for safety. Darshan is treated separately from waterfall tourism, so the temple stays open while the falls do not.

Nagphani and Hanuman Lake

Both are walks from the temple, not drives. Worth it on a clear day outside the monsoon, and closed or dangerous in it.

No verified entry fee for cars

We could not find any Forest Department checkpost or published fee for a car on the public road to the temple. If anything is collected on the day it goes on your bill at actuals with the receipt.

An eco sensitive zone

The central government notified an eco sensitive zone around the sanctuary covering 42 villages. It restricts industry and construction rather than ordinary traffic, but it is why the area stays as it is.

Carry your own water and food

There are small stalls near the temple and very little on the road up. On a 5 AM departure with children, pack before you go.

Checked on 4 October 2026. The rates, road conditions, toll positions and timings on this page were reviewed on that date by the Rane family, who drive this route themselves. If anything has changed since, tell us on WhatsApp and we will correct it.

Common Questions · Mumbai to Bhimashankar Cab

What people ask before booking.

How much is a Mumbai to Bhimashankar cab in the Hycross?▾
A Bhimashankar day trip is about 440 km garage to garage, which is the ₹6,500 band Monday to Saturday and ₹7,000 on Sunday. Add Malshej Ghat or Shivneri over two days and the average falls to about 280 km a day, so it is ₹6,000 a day (₹6,500 on Sunday). Fuel, toll and parking are extra. The car is given on a full tank and returned on a full tank, and the driver allowance is included.
How far is Bhimashankar from Mumbai, and how long is the drive?▾
About 220 km from Andheri by the Expressway, Talegaon, Chakan, Rajgurunagar and Manchar, then off through Ghodegaon and Taleghar. Five to six hours each way once you count getting out of Mumbai and the hill road at the end. A day trip runs about 440 km garage to garage.
Can we do Bhimashankar and return the same day?▾
Yes, and most families do. Leave around four in the morning, take darshan by eight, walk to Hanuman Lake and Nagphani, have lunch and be home by night.
Is the Mumbai to Bhimashankar taxi billed per kilometre?▾
No. The Hycross flat rate has no kilometre meter and no hourly counting. You pay the daily rate, the fuel your trip uses, and toll/parking.
Will the car go all the way up to the temple?▾
On an ordinary weekday, yes, the road is tarred to the temple parking area. On busy days, no, and that is not our choice. For Shravan Mondays 2026 the trust ran four separate outer parking zones with around 38 state transport buses shuttling devotees in, because the temple zone cannot take the cars. Expect to be stopped at an outer zone and bussed the last stretch on any heavy day. We check the arrangement before we set off.
Can we add Ashtavinayak temples?▾
Yes. Bhimashankar sits close to the Ashtavinayak circuit; over three days the average distance falls and the rate drops to ₹5,500 a day. See Ashtavinayak Darshan Mumbai to Trimbakeshwar Mumbai to Aurangabad Mumbai to Kolhapur Mumbai to Dwarka and Somnath Mumbai to Statue of Unity Mumbai to Ujjain and Omkareshwar Mumbai to Daman and Silvassa.
Is this a Mumbai to Bhimashankar taxi, a cab or a car rental?▾
People search for all of those and here they mean the same thing. A Mumbai to Bhimashankar taxi, a Bhimashankar cab service, Innova car hire and a Mumbai to Bhimashankar car rental all get you the same arrangement from us: one chauffeur-driven Innova that stays with you for the whole trip, priced exactly as this page sets out. We are a car rental service run by the Rane family since 1988 and not an aggregator app, so the car is ours, the chauffeur is on our payroll, and the figure we quote you is the figure you pay. A Mumbai to Bhimashankar cab booking takes one WhatsApp message: the date, your pickup area and how many of you there are.
