Included
  • Innova Hycross ZX Top
  • Chauffeur for the whole trip
  • Driver allowance
  • No kilometre meter, no minimum kilometres
You pay
  • Fuel: car given on full tank, returned on full tank
  • Toll and parking, at actuals
  • GST, only if you need a GST invoice

Nothing is collected from you on the road. The daily rate covers the chauffeur and his allowance. You buy the fuel, full tank out and full tank back, and you pay toll and parking exactly as incurred, against the FASTag statement and the cash receipts. No night charge, no minimum kilometres, no extra kilometre rate, and nothing added for crossing a state line. The car is serviced on schedule at the authorised Toyota workshop and we keep every invoice. Every rule of a booking, written down.

Mahabaleshwar is about 260 km from Mumbai each way, roughly six hours by the Expressway and the Wai ghat. A two-day trip with local sightseeing usually runs 600 to 650 km. On the flat rate none of it is billed by the kilometre: you pay the day rate and fill the fuel your trip uses. A day runs until 12 midnight. If the car reaches our garage after 11 PM on the last day, one extra day's driver allowance is payable; after 12 midnight, the next day's rate applies. A ₹2,000 deposit confirms your date.

Our Pick for Mahabaleshwar

Why the Hycross suits the Mahabaleshwar climb.

The best part of this drive is the climb after Wai, where the road folds back on itself and the valley opens up below. Six hours each way is also a long time to sit, so the seats matter as much as the view.

Near-silent hybrid cabin. The Hycross ZX Top is a petrol strong hybrid. It pulls away on electric power in silence, and the cabin stays calm, with far less engine noise and vibration than a diesel.

How It Works

The car stays with you, not on a meter.

We arrive early, tank full

Be on the Expressway by 6:30 AM and you reach the hills before lunch. The Hycross and your chauffeur reach your door.

Viewpoints at your own pace

Sunrise at Arthur's Seat, Venna Lake, the farms, Panchgani: go as you please. There is no kilometre meter running.

Home on the last evening, full tank

Refill at the end of the trip and pay the day rate plus toll/parking. That is the whole bill.

Other Cars for Mahabaleshwar

Need a different car? We run the full fleet.

The flat rate above is for the Hycross ZX Top. For two or three people on a tighter budget, or a large group, we also run the Innova Crysta, sedans, Ertiga and Carens, Tempo Travellers, the Force Urbania and buses for Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar, quoted for your trip.

What to See

Viewpoints, a lake, a fort, and the strawberry farms.

Fresh strawberries at a farm in Mahabaleshwar, with the Sahyadri hills behind

Arthur's Seat

The most dramatic viewpoint on the plateau, with the Konkan plain falling away on one side. Best in the first hours after sunrise, before the haze and the crowds.

Venna Lake

Boating, horse rides and corn on the coals. Children love it, so give it more time than you think you need.

Pratapgad Fort

Shivaji Maharaj's 1656 fort, reached by a short climb up stone steps. Go early: the last stretch of road is narrow and slows down once the day-trippers arrive.

Strawberry farms and Mapro

Fresh strawberries with cream, and in season you can walk the rows and pick your own. Roughly December to March.

Lingmala Waterfall

At full force in and just after the monsoon. The viewing platform is an easy walk; the path to the base takes longer and gets slippery.

Panchgani and Table Land

Twenty minutes short of Mahabaleshwar and worth a half-day: a wide volcanic plateau with views over the Krishna valley. A good place to break the climb.

Know Before You Go

Six things worth knowing.

Leave Mumbai by 6:30 AM

The road is quick until Pune, but the ghat after Wai is slow and narrow. Arriving before the afternoon rush changes the whole day.

It is cold up there

Mahabaleshwar stays cool even in May, and evenings drop sharply. Carry a warm layer for everyone, especially children and elders.

Viewpoints close at dusk

Arthur's Seat, Kate's Point and the rest shut around sunset and are not lit. Sunrise is the better visit anyway.

The market shuts early

Most of the market and smaller eating places wind down by about 9 PM. Plan dinner earlier than you would in Mumbai.

Monsoon is a different trip

Between June and September it is one of the wettest places in the country. Beautiful and green, but viewpoints are often fogged in and some close.

Best months: October to February

Clear air, cool days and the viewpoints at their best. Summer fills up fast because it stays comfortable when Mumbai does not.

Starting from Navi Mumbai, Panvel or Thane? The Expressway starts on your side of the city, so the drive is shorter. Tell us your pickup point and we will time the departure around it.

The Road

The drive, and the three things that decide how long it takes.

About 275 km from Andheri East, and we plan 6 to 7 hours door to door with one proper halt. With a 6:00 AM start and no stops it can be done in about five and a half hours. Anyone who promises you four is quoting a map, not a road. The route runs Andheri East to Panvel, the Mumbai Pune Expressway to Kiwale, the Pune bypass on NH 48 past Khed Shivapur and Shirwal, off the highway at Surur, then Wai, the Pasarni ghat, Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar.

Getting out of Mumbai

Andheri East to Panvel is the part nobody counts and the part that swings most. On a weekday morning peak it can cost an hour against a 5:30 AM start. This is why we push for an early departure, not to rush you.

Navale bridge, on the Pune bypass

The known chokepoint and the known accident stretch on the Katraj to Dehu Road bypass, with a steep gradient and heavy mixed traffic. Our chauffeurs slow down well before it. Lane closures there are announced from time to time.

The last 31 km

Wai to Panchgani to Mahabaleshwar is a single carriageway with the Pasarni ghat in the middle, and it is slow by design. Panchgani sits at 1,293 m, so the climb from the Krishna valley is roughly 700 to 800 m.

Two ghats before the famous one

Khambatki ghat on NH 48 between Shirwal and Surur comes first. A new six lane twin tunnel there opened for trial running in 2026 and is coming into use in stages, so the stretch is improving but is not yet settled.

The Expressway missing link

Open since 1 May 2026, with no extra toll, and it takes roughly 25 to 30 minutes off the Khandala ghat section. It closed once after a landslide in July 2026 and reopened within a day. In heavy monsoon we plan for the old ghat route and tell you so in advance.

The coastal route, and why we rarely use it

NH 66 to Poladpur and up the Ambenali ghat is shorter on the map. Ambenali is landslide prone and has been closed for days and sometimes weeks in the monsoon. We take it only when there is a reason to.

Tolls and Entry Taxes

What you pay on the road, over and above the daily rate.

You pay fuel, toll and parking at actuals on top of the flat daily rate. So that nothing on the bill is a surprise, here is what the road actually charges on this route, as at October 2026. Rates are revised by the authorities from time to time, so treat these as current indications rather than a fixed quote.

Mumbai entry points

Nothing. Cars and other light motor vehicles have been exempt at Dahisar, Mulund, Vashi, Airoli and Tinhath Naka since October 2024.

Mumbai Pune Expressway

About Rs 320 for a car one way, at Khalapur going towards Pune and Talegaon coming back. The missing link carries no separate toll.

Khed Shivapur, on NH 48

About Rs 125 one way or Rs 185 return for a car. This plaza went cashless in April 2026, so FASTag only. Our cars leave with the FASTag topped up, because a vehicle without balance is charged double.

Anewadi is not on this route

A lot of cab fare pages list it. You turn off NH 48 at Surur, roughly 20 km before Anewadi plaza, so you never reach it. If a quote includes Anewadi, the person writing it has not driven the road.

Panchgani entry and pollution tax

The Panchgani municipal council collects an entry and pollution tax at the Dandeghar checkpoint on the ghat road, around Rs 150 to Rs 200 for a car, and the receipt is valid for several days. This is the charge most first time visitors are not expecting.

Mahabaleshwar entry and pollution tax

Mahabaleshwar municipal council levies its own, collected near Venna Lake, again valid for several days. Keep both receipts in the car, because they are checked.

On the Plateau

Where the car takes you, and where you walk.

Mahabaleshwar is not a place where the car parks once. Your chauffeur moves between points all day, and at two of them the walk is long enough to change how you plan the morning.

Arthur’s Seat: allow 90 minutes

The car reaches the parking area, about 13 km from the bus station, but not the point itself. It is roughly a 30 minute walk each way on stone steps. Go first, at sunrise, when the haze and the crowds are still down the hill and parking is easy.

Kate’s Point and Elephant’s Head

Seven to eight km out, and the car gets you there. These pair naturally with Arthur’s Seat on the same morning run.

Venna Lake

In town, easy to reach, and the natural place to leave the car while you take the boats. Give it longer than you plan to if you have children.

Lingmala Waterfall

Maharashtra Tourism describes the approach as a short trek through the forest, and the paths get slippery in and after the monsoon. The car waits at the top.

Pratapgad Fort

About an hour out of town, and the last stretch of road is narrow. Then a climb up stone steps. Go early, before the day trippers from Mahabaleshwar fill the road.

Panchgani Table Land

Twenty minutes short of Mahabaleshwar on the way up, so it is best taken on the climb rather than as a separate run. It is a wide volcanic plateau, and the horse and buggy rides are at the top, not the parking.

These are our own notes from running the route. Road and parking arrangements change, and the municipal councils revise their charges, so your chauffeur will tell you on the day if anything has moved.

Common Questions · Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar Cab

What people ask before booking.

How much is a Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar cab in the Hycross?▾
Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani over two days is about 580 km garage to garage, an average of about 290 km a day, which is the ₹6,000 band, so it is ₹6,000 a day Monday to Saturday and ₹6,500 on Sunday, and a Saturday and Sunday trip is ₹12,500. Add Pratapgad over three days and the average falls to about 215 km a day, so it is ₹5,500 a day (Sunday ₹6,000). Fuel, toll and parking are extra and the driver allowance is included.
How far is Mahabaleshwar from Mumbai, and how long is the drive?▾
About 260 km each way, around six hours with one proper halt. A two-day trip with local sightseeing usually runs 600 to 650 km.
Is the Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar taxi billed per kilometre?▾
No. The Hycross flat rate has no kilometre meter and no hourly counting. You pay the daily rate, the fuel your trip uses, and toll/parking.
Can Mahabaleshwar be done as a one-day trip?▾
It can, but we would gently talk you out of it. You would spend most of the daylight in the car. Two days lets you see the viewpoints at sunrise, when they are at their best.
Who pays for the driver's food and stay?▾
Nobody extra. The driver allowance is included in the daily rate and covers the chauffeur's own food and stay on overnight trips.
Can we add Panchgani, Pratapgad or Lonavala?▾
Yes. Panchgani and Pratapgad fit into a two or three day plan, and the car stays with you throughout. For a shorter hill trip closer to Mumbai, see Mumbai to Lonavala.
Is this a Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar taxi, a cab or a car rental?▾
People search for all of those and here they mean the same thing. A Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar taxi, a Mahabaleshwar cab service, Innova car hire and a Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar car rental all get you the same arrangement from us: one chauffeur-driven Innova that stays with you for the whole trip, priced exactly as this page sets out. We are a car rental service run by the Rane family since 1988 and not an aggregator app, so the car is ours, the chauffeur is on our payroll, and the figure we quote you is the figure you pay. A Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar cab booking takes one WhatsApp message: the date, your pickup area and how many of you there are.
