About 330 km one-way on the Mumbai–Goa highway through Chiplun; 7 to 8 hours with a proper lunch halt. The Swayambhu Ganpati temple sits right on the beach. Most families take a 2-day package; 3 days lets you add Jaigad lighthouse and Ratnagiri.
Festival season — darshan queues are long but the atmosphere is unmatched. Book the car well in advance.
Cool, clear coastal weather. Calm sea, comfortable darshan, beach evenings. The Konkan at its kindest.
Hot and humid on the coast, but mornings are lovely and hotels are cheaper. Carry light cottons.
Sample itinerary: Day 1 — leave Mumbai 6 AM, breakfast near Mahad, lunch at Chiplun, reach Ganpatipule by 3 PM, evening darshan and beach. Day 2 — morning darshan, Prachin Konkan museum, Aare Ware viewpoint, return to Mumbai by 10 PM. With a third day: Jaigad fort and lighthouse, and Ratnagiri's Thibaw Palace on the way back.
